Cristian Romero has not played for Tottenham since limping off Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Brazil on November 16.

Tottenham summer signing Cristian Romero has undergone several tests since suffering a hamstring injury in November.

Having left Atalanta, Romero joined Tottenham on an initial loan deal which will turn into a £42.5million permanent move. Many observers consider Romero as a player who can fit well within Antonio Conte’s tactics. However, an unfortunate hamstring issue has struck the 23-year-old’s fitness.

In a press conference ahead of Tottenham’s match against Brentford on Thursday, Conte gave an update on Romero’s injury.

“The news is not positive, not good,” Conte said (via Mirror).

“Because the injury is serious and I think it will take time before to see him again. Surely next year and we need to check his injury week by week but the injury is serious.

“Now he is trying to recover, he needs a long time. He needs time to recover. It’s a pity because he’s an important player for us but the injury is very serious.”

Asked when Romero will make his return for Tottenham, Conte responded: “January, February I don’t know, but 2021 is finished to play. We have to wait to recover well but the injury is serious.”

Tottenham are eager to bounce back from their disappointing defeat against NS Mura in the Europa Conference League. After their game against Brentford, the Spurs will face Norwich City in their next league game on Sunday.
