The club’s current owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly keen to sell the club amid pressure from the UK government.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has affected Chelsea more than any other English club since the United Kingdom’s government started its sanctions against Russian oligarchs.
A number of British parliament members have spoken out against Roman Abramovich’s rights to own Chelsea in recent days. Earlier this week, the Russian businessman published a statement, saying he will hand over the club’s ‘stewardship’.
However, amid continuing pressure from British politicians, English sources have reported Abramovich has decided to sell the club. Eight parties are reportedly in the running to take over the Blues, which would require a £3billion offer.
On Wednesday, Conor McGregor expressed his interest in buying the London club.
“I wish to explore this, Chelsea,” the UFC star wrote on Twitter in response to a picture of a WhatsApp message which read: “Chelsea for sale, £3bn. Let’s buy it”.
McGregor, who has a networth of around £135million, has previously shown an interest in buying Manchester United. The 33-year-old, who is an avid United fan, tweeted last year: “Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying Manchester United! What do you think?”
In recent days, Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss has claimed he has an offer to buy Chelsea on his table. He also revealed he is planning to takeover the club by preparing a consortium to submit an offer.
