As a way to convince Jürgen Klopp to make a move, Stan Collymore stated that Liverpool would be invincible if they signed Koulibaly.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been a transfer target no just for Liverpool, but for most of Europe’s elite clubs. The Napoli centre-back is amongst the top defensive players in the world right now. Gennaro Gattuso himself repeatedly stated that he would like the player to remain in Italy but things are out of his control.

Liverpool already won the Premier League last season with Virgil van Dijk as the top man on the defensive line. Imagine what the Reds would be able to accomplish if Koulibaly played alongside the Dutchman. This is exactly what Stan Collymore keeps saying and he urges Jürgen Klopp to go after the defender.

Stan said on The Sunday People: “The idea of Kalidou Koulibaly partnering Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool’s central defense has me so excited that I reckon it could be the best pairing since Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

“It genuinely could be up there with the best partnerships there have ever been in the game and if Sadio Mane’s text messages to his compatriot have convinced him to sign for the Reds, then it’s game over for all their title rivals.”

Klopp is not so convinced to sign Koulibaly.

The main problem with this proposal from Collymore is that Klopp doesn’t seem too enthusiastic about signing more defensive players for his squad.

“The centre-half situation, you think you are covered with three absolute top, top, top centre-halves, young players behind and Fabinho if we need him,” said Klopp during a press conference.

“And then all of a sudden, three players are injured and are out for a few days.

“That’s not nice, but we cannot solve that in the transfer market. It’s just not possible, and we will not try.

“If nothing more serious happens, then we will not even try. If the situation stays like it is in the moment, then no, there will be nothing happening. I think we are in a pretty good place, squad-wise, and what will happen on the outgoing side, we will see.”
