The Dutchman has bounced back from a slow start at Liverpool in recent weeks.
Cody Gakpo believes playing as a No. 10 will provide him with more attacking chances at Liverpool.
Gakpo’s impressive displays at PSV convinced Louis van Gaal to call him up for the World Cup. The Dutch forward’s performances earned him a £44m transfer to Liverpool, where he must find his spot alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez.
Gakpo wasn’t able to singlehandedly improve Liverpool’s form upon his arrival. But he has bounced back from his slow start with two goals in his last two appearances for the Reds.
Klopp has mostly used Gakpo as a winger in his squad, but the Dutchman suggests he could be more effective down the middle.
Speaking to UEFA’s official website, he said: “I’ve been asked a lot before what my favourite position is. In the last three seasons, I’ve mostly played on the left, but during the World Cup, I also played more in the middle, as a No.10.
“I think it’s just important that I play. When I play down the middle, I get more chances to move forward with the ball. That’s maybe less the case when I play on the left, but it’s not really a preference that I have. I’m just happy to play.”
