Manchester City have joined rivals United in pursuit of a big-money move for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is targeting a move for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

It comes after reports earlier this month claimed that the Englishman was City’s top transfer target next summer.

Grealish was heavily linked with rivals Manchester United last summer but the 25-year-old signed a five-year contract extension with the Villains back in September to end those speculations.

However, City could fork out the reported £100m to persuade Villa to let their talisman leave. This is according to a report by the Independent.

Guardiola has previously spoken about his admiration for Grealish, labeling him “an exceptional player” on several occasions.

Before City would face Villa in the Carabao Cup final in March, Guardiola said: “They have one of the best players in the league in Jack Grealish. I’m a big fan of him.”

The possible addition of Grealish is part of a planned spending spree and would add an incredible talent to the existing array of attackers at the Etihad.

With Guardiola extending his contract at the club, City are expected to cough out necessary funds that could see them reclaim their stronghold at the top of domestic football.

However, a player like Grealish will have many suitors and City will have to convince the player and club while fending off interest from other sides.
