Jesper Olsen is convinced Christian Eriksen will come good for Inter Milan despite a somewhat sluggish start to his Serie A career.
Eriksen ended speculation regarding his future by swapping Tottenham for Inter in a €27m deal during the winter transfer window.
The Danish playmaker has since amassed 26 appearances for Antonio Conte’s side, albeit only as a starter 11 times. The other 15 outings have come from the bench in the Serie A, Europa League, and Coppa Italia.
This somewhat underwhelming start has already given birth to new rumors over Eriksen’s future, with Corriere dello Sport recently claiming Inter may sell him for €50m this summer.
Conte restricting the former Ajax star to a mere 12-minute cameo in Inter’s 3-2 Europa League final defeat to Sevilla only intensified doubts.
Speaking to Stats Perform News, however, Eriksen’s compatriot Olsen rose to his defense by arguing the midfielder needs time to adapt to his new surroundings.
“I’m sure a big change from the Premier League,” said former Ajax and Manchester United winger Olsen as quoted on Goal.
“London and then you go to Milan, a fantastic place. A very good team as well. I’m sure the way they do things is different to how they did things at Tottenham.
“It takes time I’m sure to settle in. Christian can play in any team really. He is probably one of those players you sometimes don’t notice as much but he always does his job. Always solid and you can rely on him. I’m sure he will come good.
“He is probably happy the season has come to an end so he can get to know the place a bit better and to settle in for the new season. The way he is as a player, I’m sure he will come good.”
Olsen also spoke on another former Ajax player in Hakim Ziyech, who is preparing for his first season at Chelsea.
