Chelsea star Andreas Christensen knows the Blues still have it all to do against Atletico Madrid for their return leg Champions League clash.

Chelsea must be mentally strong and focused if they are to advance past Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, says Christensen.

The Blues hold the advantage coming into the second leg of their Champions League clash with the Spanish side, having won 1-0 in the first leg.

Despite the lead, it is still rather narrow and an early goal by Atletico at Stamford Bridge could change the complexion of the game.

Speaking ahead of the game, Christensen spoke gave his assessment of how Chelsea should approach that important game.

He said to the club’s website: “That’s kind of a focus point for the whole team”

“We have to be very comfortable on the ball and we don’t just play to play – there’s a reason behind every step we take with the ball and every pass.”

Chelsea have looked more of a unit under Thomas Tuchel and Christensen also explained the reason behind their recent unbeaten run.

“The reason we’ve been solid as a team is that we’ve been working hard as a team, with a high press and sometimes suffering together if we have to.”

“I think it’s inevitable, with the players we have, that they’re always going to have their moments, with the skills and the talent that we’ve got here. As we get better and better as a team, people are going to express themselves in every way they can. I think we can look forward to that even more.”

Under Thomas Tuchel, Christensen has been one of Chelsea’s most improved players and is expected to feature in defence against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
