Federico Chiesa says there are regrets after Juventus failed to advance past Porto in the Champions League.

Juventus did ‘everything’ they could and deserved to qualify against Porto, says Chiesa.

One of the biggest upsets so far in the Champions League came on Tuesday night when Juve bowed out of the competition.

They trailed by a 2-1 score-line to Porto in the first leg but they were widely expected to win at the Allianz stadium.

On a night where a 3-2 victory wasn’t enough, Chiesa was perhaps the only bright spot for Juventus. He bagged a brace in the win and was also the goal-scorer for the Bianconeri in the first leg.

Despite Porto playing most of the second half with 10 men, the Portuguese giants did just enough to advance.

In similar words to Juve boss Andrea Pirlo, Chiesa is clearly disappointed but says his side deserved to go through.

“I don’t take anything positive from this evening. I wanted to go through and there is great regret,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“After the first half, we did enough to deserve to qualify, from the many chances to Juan Cuadrado hitting the bar.”

“When you don’t go through, you have to analyse what happened, but I feel that in the second half we had a different mentality and deserved to go through.”

“We wanted to be in the quarter-finals, we’re not, so now we focus on Serie A and the Coppa Italia.”

Asides from their recent games, Chiesa has been a bright spot for Juventus this season. Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata have scored more goals for the club than the Italian this term.
