Ace Football previews the Premier League match between Chelsea and West Ham United, and offers betting tips, odds, line-ups, and team news.

Eighth meets tenth as Chelsea welcome West Ham United to Stamford Bridge for a London derby on Monday night.

Both clubs enter the fray looking to bounce back from setbacks in their previous fixtures. And with only a point between them in the Premier League standings, they have everything to fight for in this one.

West Ham did the double over Chelsea last season by claiming a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge in November 2019 before memorably beating their London rivals again 3-2 at home back in July.

Those victories, along with their excellent run of form, should leave visitors on a high for the trip to the blue end of London. But then again, the hosts have a point to prove and cannot afford to drop any more points.

Chelsea Form & Stats

Back-to-back losses to Everton and Wolves have seen Chelsea slip right down the league table. From being right in the thick of the title battle, they now trail table-toppers Liverpool by nine points. A win on Monday, however, would take them back to within two points of second-placed Leicester City in a potential fifth.

The 2-1 defeat at Wolves last week was a particularly disappointing one, though. Frank Lampard cited fatigue as the fundamental problem after the Blues surrendered a one-goal lead to suffer a third loss of the season.

Chelsea have now gone three wins without a victory in all competitions and need a response. While it’s still early days, as far as the title battle is concerned, they cannot afford to suffer a third consecutive league defeat for the first time since 2015 and lose more ground to Liverpool.

That said, the six-time English champions have only won half of their six home league games this season (D2 L1). West Ham will no doubt look to capitalize on this ahead of the derby.

Key Team Stats
  • Lost their last 2 league games.
  • Won 3 of their 6 home league games this season (D2 L1).
  • Won just 3 of their last 10 games against West Ham in all competitions (D3 L4).
  • BTTS in 3 of their last 4 home league games.
  • Taken an average of 37 minutes to score their first goal this season.
  • Mason Mount could make his 50th Premier League appearance.
  • Olivier Giroud has scored in 4 of his last 7 games in all competitions (7 goals in total).

West Ham Form & Stats

The Hammers overcame successive defeats in their opening two games of the season to climb into the upper half of the standings. A victory at Stamford Bridge would move them to within two points of a top-four spot.

West Ham are one of the Premier League’s most in-form outfits recently, collecting 13 points from their last six games (W4 D1 L1). Only Manchester United and Liverpool have bagged more points in this period.

David Moyes’ preference for keeping his team tight at the back, meanwhile, has helped West Ham boast the league’s fifth-best defensive record. And while they’ve conceded in their last four games, only Manchester United have scored over one goal against them.

Their recent away form also makes for a good read, having won three of their last five league games on the road (D1 L1), along with their solid head-to-head record against Chelsea (W4 D3 L3) across their previous 10 meetings.

Key Team Stats
  • Won 4 of their last 6 league games (D1 L1).
  • Exactly 3 goals in 4 of their 6 away league games this season.
  • Scored in all of their 6 away league games this season with an average of 1.83 goals-per-match.
  • More first-half goals in 67% of their away league games this season.
  • BTTS in each of their last 4 league games.
  • Taken an average of 37 minutes to score their first goal this season.
