Thomas Tuchel’s men grab a comfortable victory over a new-look Eagles to show their title credentials early on.
The second London derby of the new Premier League campaign, just like the first one between Brentford and Arsenal, was skewed towards the hosts as Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea entered the match high on morale, having only recently clinched the UEFA Super Cup after beating Europa League winners Villarreal.
As for Crystal Palace, the match marked the dawn of a new era, with Roy Hodgson now replaced by Patrick Vieira at the helm. They have also undergone a major squad overhaul this summer, with a host of senior players going out and multiple new faces coming in.
The statement of intent, however, came from Chelsea.
Marcos Alonso opened the scoring in style for the kings of Europe, hitting a free-kick over the wall and into the top corner from about 22 yards.
Christian Pulisic made sure his side go into the break with a healthy 2-0 lead before Blues’ academy product Trevoh Chalobah smashed in a shot from distance to complete the rout.
