Chelsea will play without two key players in their next two games.

Chelsea have suffered a Covid outbreak in recent weeks. Several first-team players have tested positive for the virus, limiting Thomas Tuchel’s choices for the lineup. Ahead of the Blues’ match against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup’s semi-finals, the manager confirmed two new Covid cases.

Asked whether any players had tested positive before the game, the Chelsea manager responded (via the club’s website): “Yes, unfortunately Thiago Silva and N’Golo Kante,”

“It’s huge for us because they are two huge players. We had the last information today in the morning, so it is quite challenging, but we will push. The guys who are here have our trust and our belief.

“We will push things to the maximum. The situation hasn’t changed since some weeks ago, it’s not the moment to repeat it, from here we are looking for solutions. I have trust in the guys who play and hopefully we put in a strong performance.”

The German manager also returned Romelu Lukaku to his lineup after the Belgian apologized for his controversial interview.

“It’s against his own coach, it’s at home and he’s our player. So, this was the plan,” the Chelsea boss told Sky Sports.

“We can listen to this interview 100 times and it will not won’t make it better. He wants to be and we want him to be a key player. For now we move on.”

Following their match against Tottenham, Chelsea will face Chesterfield in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
