Despite various reports of Chelsea triggering Michael Olise’s release clause, the France U-21 international will stay put at Crystal Palace.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Michael Olise has come to a halt. The midfielder has instead chosen to sign a new four-year deal with Crystal Palace.
The Blues were reportedly close to acquiring Olise. They activated a £35 million release clause in the 21-year-old’s previous contract earlier this week.
Palace chairman Steve Parish, however, has put an end to those hopes. In a statement on Instagram, Parish announced that Olise has committed his future to the Eagles by signing a new long-term deal.
“I’m absolutely delighted to announce @m.olise has decided to commit his future to Crystal Palace and this afternoon signed a new four-year deal with the club,” Parish’s post read.
Last season, Olise’s reputation skyrocketed in the Premier League. He made 11 assists and won Palace’s Player of the Season award. His performances spurred talk of a big-money move to Chelsea this summer.
Yet, Olise has decided that Crystal Palace is the right place to be. With his future now resolved, he will turn his focus to the Eagles’ next game against Arsenal on Monday.
