Chelsea might have been handed a blow after defender Reece James pulled out of training due to a knee injury.

Chelsea might have to do without Reece James for their game against West Ham on Monday.

The 21-year-old has been one of the Blues’ most in-form players this season but could miss out on their next outing.

As per Goal, James pulled out of training on Sunday morning due to an issue with his knee.

However, the report adds that early scans have shown that the injury is not ‘serious’ and is not exactly something that could be ‘long-term’.

Chelsea now have a decision to make regarding whether to wait out the length of the injury or try and accelerate James’ recovery via a minor operation.

However, a more recent post from The Athletic claims the Englishman will only need surgery as a last resort in what could be welcome news for Frank Lampard.

James first suffered the knee problem in a collision with Daniel Podence in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves.

The defender then complained of recurring pain from the same knee last Friday after training.

In the absence of James, Cesar Azpilicueta is expected to step on and fill in at right-back against the Hammers.
