Chelsea striker withdraws from international duty to undergo surgery

The Blues might be forced to sideline another one of their forwards with injury.

Chelsea striker Nicholas Jackson has withdrawn from the Senegal squad with a hand injury.

Jackson has been wearing a tape on his right hand since picking up an injury in September. The 22-year-old has now decided to go under the knife as he skips Senegal’s matches during the current international break.

The details of Jackson’s surgery are not clear, but most observers believe the striker won’t stay sidelined for long. A minor surgery could help Jackson to regain full recovery and avoid an injury relapse in the future.

In addition to Jackson, another Chelsea player, Axel Disasi, left France’s squad after suffering an injury. The Moroccan star picked up a knock during Chelsea’s victory over Burnley last weekend. The 25-year-old is expected to return before the team’s match against Arsenal later this month.

As Chelsea prepare for their tough run of games after the international break, a number of their key players edge closer to return from injury.

Carney Chukwuemeka and Reece James will both be available for selection against Arsenal, while Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah are planning to rejoin full team training during the international break.

Following their match against Arsenal on October 21, Chelsea will face Tottenham, Manchester City, Newcastle, Brighton, and Manchester United until December 6.
