The Blues’ all-time record goalscorer has returned for a second spell as manager until the end of the season.
Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has lifted the lid on Frank Lampard’s first meeting with the team.
The former midfielder is in charge of the first team until the summer while the club board searches for a permanent replacement for the fired Graham Potter.
He previously coached Chelsea from July 2019 until his own sacking in January 2021.
“We had a short meeting. He explained what he wants and what his desire is until the end of the season,” Kovacic told Sky Sports about Lampard’s return.
“We now have an opportunity to climb the table as much as we can and we have two beautiful games against Real Madrid. There is a possibility to finish the season well and if there’s a possibility we need to take it.
“He was very calm and had a clear idea of what he expects from us. But it’s only one day so we will see what he asks us to do on the pitch and how we will prepare. He’s back and now we want to do our best for the club.”
Lampard is set to make his second debut as Chelsea manager away to Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday. He will then prepare the squad for Tuesday’s first leg against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals in Spain.
The 44-year-old Englishman last managed fellow Premier League club Everton until January.
