Cole Palmer has developed into a key player under Pochettino after completing a summer move from Manchester City.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has backed Cole Palmer to reach the level of former Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria.
Palmer, who completed a £42.5 million transfer from Manchester City in the summer, has already accumulated six goals and five assists for Chelsea this season, solidifying his place as a key player at Stamford Bridge.
“In the position that he [Palmer] plays, and because he’s a left-footer and because he has some similarities and the quality, he’s a potential Angel Di Maria,” Pochettino told TNT Sports.
Di Maria worked under Pochettino during his spell at Paris Saint-Germain. A year after winning the World Cup with Argentina, the former Real Madrid star is currently enjoying an incredible spell at Benfica this season.
Pochettino added: “Angel is a world champion [with Argentina], he was in Paris with us, and is an amazing player.
“He [Palmer] has the capacity and the potential to be close to him, with time. He’s still far away, but this type of player that can link, can be a playmaker, have the capacity to score, assist, it’s this type of player like Angel.”
