The Blues signed Fofana earlier this month, hoping to add much-needed depth to their attacking line.
Graham Potter is not sure when David Datro Fofana will make his Chelsea debut.
The Ivorian starlet joined Chelsea from Molde earlier this month. He was in the stands when the Blues drew 1-1 against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
However, Potter says he won’t rush the 20-year-old into making an early debut for the club.
“He’s here at the moment but we still need to wait for the clearances and all those formalities,” Potter told reporters.
“He’s been on a bit of a break so we’ll give him some time to train and assess him, then find out the best solution in terms of how to take the next step of his career.”
Fofana established himself as one of the most promising forwards in the Norwegian top flight after joining Molde from Abidjan City in 2021.
The Ivorian star can play on both wings, but he prefers to play as a central forward. Chelsea’s low squad depth up front might provide Fofana with a chance to get first-team minutes at Stamford Bridge as soon as this season.
However, several reports have also emerged of Chelsea’s possible decision to send their newly-signed striker on a loan deal.
It seems Potter wants to see more of Fofana before deciding on his next move.
“It’s too early to say. He’s an exciting player so we’re open-minded about it,” the Chelsea manager added when asked about a possible loan transfer for Fofana.
