The Swiss international joins Chelsea’s extended injury list.

Graham Potter expects Denis Zakaria to stay out of Chelsea’s squad for four weeks.

Zakaria limped off Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat against Fulham on Thursday. The former Monchengladbach star underwent tests a day later, with Potter now confirming the extent of his injury.

“Denis is going to be four weeks. The top of his quad. That’s a blow for us – hopefully he can be sooner,” Potter said after Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Crystal Palace.

Zakaria joins a long injury list at Stamford Bridge that has undermined Potter’s efforts to bring Chelsea back to their best form.

Zakaria, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Reece James, Christian Pulisic, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, Armando Broja, Raheem Sterling, and Edouard Mendy are all out with fitness injuries.

Chelsea have added four new players to their squad this winter to salvage their disappointing campaign.

The Blues confirmed a big-money transfer for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhailo Mudryk on Sunday. But Potter says the new signings should find their own places in the squad instead of emulating the injured stars.

He added: “You can’t just sign players to replace those who are injured because that creates a problem when they come back.

“So you have to look for the right solutions and they’re not completely lined as you want because the January window is complicated. So I have to try to support the club and make their decisions, and help the team improve.”
