The Blues have lost one of their highest-rated midfielders ahead of the next season.

Chelsea will continue improving their squad in the summer transfer window, Mauricio Pochettino confirms.

The Blues’ summer business has so far been focused around rising funds through player sales, with 11 senior stars already completing moves away from the club.

Chelsea have added Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson to their ranks. However, it seems that they are planning to sign more players under Pochettino.

During his first press conference at Stamford Bridge, the new Chelsea manager was asked about Mason Mount’s £60m move to Manchester United.

“I don’t know what happened with Mount but we have to move on. The past is the past,” Pochettino responded.

“We have not our whole squad but they are very open. We have quality, we are going to add more quality.

“I feel it’s a fresh start now. It happens sometimes at football clubs with players going and others arriving.

“It’s normal that the club would want to reduce the number of players, but it’s not a big issue for me.”

Chelsea have raised more than £200m in sales so far this summer, balancing out their books after a record-breaking transfer window in 2022.

Pochettino added: “I am not trying to think about challenges. First we need a balanced squad. We wanted to reduce the number of players.”

Chelsea will travel to the U.S. to start their pre-season camp in Florida next week. The Blues will take on Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham in their first match under Pochettino on July 19.
