In an interview with ESPN Brazil, Chelsea star midfielder talked about transfer rumors with London side Arsenal.

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho admits that he looked forward to negotiations with Arsenal during the transfer season. Apparently, the Gunners showed interest in the Italy international before swapping Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid.

Originally, Jorginho joined the Chelsea side in 2018 following interests from Manchester City. Though, he chose to go for Maurizio Sarri than Pep Guardiola.

Evidently, Guardiola’s then-assistant Mikel Arteta was an admirer of Jorginho. Moreover, during the course of this transfer season, the Gunners boss searched for a midfielder.

However, Arsenal purchased Partey by paying for his release clause. Although, the Chelsea playmaker also appeared on their list.

Surprisingly so, Jorginho mentioned that he would have taken the transfer talk into consideration for a move to Emirates.

But now, he looks forward to being clinical for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.

“I believe that every player is open to negotiations,” Jorginho told ESPN Brazil.

“So I believe there was something they talked about. And in the end, it was decided that I remain here. Now my head is here and we’re going to do a great job with Chelsea, which I always wanted to do.”

A tough rivalry.

Furthermore, the Blues spent £220 million to sign top-class players. These include Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Edouard Mendy, Hakim Ziyech, and Ben Chilwell.

Therefore, the rivalry for the first-team spot increased following the new signings.

“They had a big market. The players who arrived have great potential and can certainly help this club a lot,” he said.

“They’re already doing and will do much more. When there’s this high competition among the players, it turns out that the level of the team goes up, and when the level of the team goes up, the team ends up becoming better and even more competitive to reach the top.

“So I believe that the arrival of these great players only brings good things and will certainly help the group and the club.

“It’s normal that you need time. How long did Liverpool work to win something? So I believe that with every change, every beginning of a project, we need to believe in the project for it to bear fruit and bring results. So it’s normal that you need this working time.”

After the frustration against Sevilla, Chelsea will now face Manchester United in the Premier League.
