The Blues are getting closer to finalizing a deal for one of Serie A’s top defenders.

Chelsea are reportedly leading the transfer race for Kalidou Koulibaly despite interest from Juventus.

The Senegalese star has established himself among Europe’s top defenders since his arrival at Napoli in 2014. Over the last few seasons, several clubs have failed in their efforts to sign the experienced defender.

However, Chelsea have now managed to get closer to sealing a transfer for the centre-back.

According to 90min, Chelsea’s negotiations to sign Koulibaly have accelerated recently. The Senegal captain is reportedly keen to join the Blues, with his representatives already being in contact with the club.

Chelsea are hopeful they can edge out Juventus in the race to sign Koulibaly.

Napoli are preferring to sell their star defender to a non-Serie A club, with the player himself leading toward a move to Stamford Bridge.

After the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, Chelsea are in the market to sign new centre-backs.

The club’s top defensive target was Matthijs de Ligt. However, the Dutchman is getting closer to securing a move to Bayern Munich.

In case Chelsea manage to secure a deal for Koulibaly, Juventus must find another alternative for the former Ajax star.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Presnel Kimpembe and Jules Kounde have attracted interest from the Bianconeri. But similar to Koulibaly, both of them are also among Chelsea’s defensive targets.
