Chelsea have reportedly reached out to AC Milan to discuss the potential signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma after losing faith in Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea have grown tired of Arrizabalaga’s inability to deliver consistency and are hell-bent on signing Donnarumma from Milan, according to Football Insider.

The most expensive goalkeeper ever lost his place in Frank Lampard’s starting XI down the final stretch of last season.

The English manager dropped Arrizabalaga for the final matchday of the season and moved on to put Willy Caballero between the sticks in the FA Cup final against Arsenal.

After being priced out of a move for Jan Oblak due to Atletico Madrid’s whopping £100million price tag, the Blues have switched their attention over to Donnarumma.

Although he’s just 21, the Italian shot-stopper already has 203 senior appearances for Milan under his belt and is widely considered one of the most talented keepers on the planet.

Chelsea have already sounded out the Rossoneri to understand the feasibility of the deal, but Arrizabalaga remains the elephant in the room.

Before launching a final assault on Donnarumma, the Stamford Bridge side will first have to find a suitor for the ex-Athletic Bilbao man, who cost them £71million in 2018.

Ajax’s Andre Onana and Lille’s duo Edouard Mendy and Mike Maignan are also among the candidates to replace Arrizabalaga should Chelsea’s pursuit of the young Italian come a cropper.
