The World Cup winner feels positive about his side’s chances in the title race given the defending champions’ inconsistent form.
Olivier Giroud believes the Premier League title is well within Chelsea’s reach this season as he expresses a burning desire to pick up the trophy for the first time in his career.
Chelsea find themselves lagging behind early in the title race, sitting at sixth place on the standings with 26 points collected from 16 games.
Liverpool currently lead the table, and the Blues are seven points behind the defending champions.
The Merseyside outfit, however, have struggled to maintain their standards from last season when they basically walked the league, claiming the crown by finishing an outrageous 18 points at the top of the table.
Struggling with inconsistency and hit with an injury crisis, Jurgen Klopp’s men have already dropped as many points as they did in the entire 2019-20 campaign.
“Because of the fact Liverpool is not flying like the two previous years we can join the title race, that’s my target,” Giroud told the club’s official website.
“Obviously we need to learn from the disappointing results but we’re not going to change our target because it’s very tight.
“I also really want to win this Premier League, it’s something I want a lot.”
