Former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise has named the player he believes should succeed Cesar Azpilicueta as the next Blues skipper.
Mason Mount should be the next Chelsea captain due to his inside knowledge and love for the club, says Dennis Wise.
The 22-year-old is living the Chelsea dream and appears to be going from strength to strength under Thomas Tuchel, having already inserted himself as an integral member of the new manager’s squad.
In the eyes of many pundits and fans alike, Mount is the most promising Blues academy graduate in recent years.
Frank Lampard on making Mason Mount captain:
"It wasn't a gesture, I didn't know I was leaving at that point.
I wanted to show Mason that his authority and standing within the group had risen. When you have players who have that care, it doesn't matter who the manager is." pic.twitter.com/quppgHWxXf

Despite his young age, he has already captained the senior team twice in the FA Cup this season and has been backed to take on the skipper’s armband permanently once Cesar Azpilicueta steps down.
“He should be the next captain,” Wise told The Sun. “He is a Chelsea boy. He has been there from a young age.
“He knows the club inside out, the personnel and he loves it – a bit like John Terry. Mason would be perfect.
“It will make him a lot more mature as a person. He is the type that will like that and added responsibility will take him to the next level.
“And I have to say the next level for him will be very, very high.”

Of course, Wise is no stranger amongst the Blues faithful in London. The former midfielder played for Chelsea between 1990 and 2001, making 402 appearances and scoring 65 goals. He famously captained the club to two FA Cups and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.
Mount will hope to follow in Wise’s footsteps by winning a first FA Cup title with Chelsea in Saturday’s final against Leicester City.
