Kai Havertz may be one of the most exciting young players in Europe, but the Chelsea new boy is yet to win over an unimpressed Frank Leboeuf.

Big-money transfers raise expectations right from the start, no matter how young a player maybe or, especially in Havertz’s case, the need to adjust to a new league and country.

The plaudits rightfully came Frank Lampard’s way upon signing the 21-year-old in September for an €80m fee.

The price may have been high but, considering the former Bayer Leverkusen star’s potential and the amount of interest from clubs across Europe, it was money well spent in the eyes of the Blues faithful.

Fast forward to this day, however, Havertz is evidently still adapting to his new surroundings. He’s shown flashes of promise, including an EFL Cup hat-trick, but is yet to bring any real consistency at Stamford Bridge.

Now Frank Leboeuf, who is full of praise for Havertz’s fellow summer arrival Hakim Ziyech, has called on the German to raise his game.

The former Blues defender told ESPN: “I’m very pleased for Ziyech, getting fit and giving his best. But I’m still not convinced about Havertz, I still want more from him.

“I want more impact from him where I think he disappears. I’m sure Frank is still not completely happy with the way they worked together.

“Sometimes it seemed like they were looking for each other like they don’t really know each other.

“I’m looking for something better, much better from Chelsea. With the players they have, they’re capable of giving much more than we saw.

“Even though they got the win, the clean sheet, everything was going their way, but I can’t be happy with the performance 100 percent.”
