The Senegalese centre-back limped off the pitch in Chelsea’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

Chelsea star Kalidou Koulibaly could stay out of action for weeks, according to Frank Lampard.

The experienced defender made a fantastic recovery challenge in Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat against Real Madrid on Wednesday. However, he picked up an injury in the process and left the pitch after a few minutes.

English sources initially speculated Koulibaly might return after a few days on the sidelines. However, Lampard reveals the 31-year-old’s injury is more severe than expected.

“He won’t be available for either game,” Lampard confirmed“A matter of weeks rather than days.

“He’s a very good, very experienced player. People talk a lot about our squad, Champions League squad is different to Premier League and a disappointment but also an opportunity.”

Chelsea will also have to play without Ben Chilwell in their second-leg game against Real Madrid. Following a tackle on Rodrygo, the English star received a straight red card, which suspended him from his side’s next UCL game.

Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile could get more minutes as the two Chelsea stars stay out of action. The Blues will take on Brighton in a league game on Saturday before hosting Real Madrid three days later.
