The Chelsea midfielder is standing on top of the club’s goalscoring sides with nine goals.

Following a title-winning Euro 2020 campaign in the summer, Jorginho has continued his impressive form at Chelsea. He has continued his role as the team’s number one penalty taker, breaking a Premier League record in the process.

During the past calendar year, Jorginho scored ten penalties in the Premier League, an all-time record in the competition. He is also Chelsea’s top-scorer this campaign but prefers to see the strikers get most of the goals.

“It’s just happened like that!” he told the club’s official website.

“I hope our strikers can score, score, score and be the top scorers and not me, to be honest.

He added: “People watching are probably more nervous than me when I take a penalty, especially my friends and family,

‘Sometimes you know the pressure is higher than other times, but I try to not put that pressure on myself or feel that pressure. I try to breathe, clear my mind and keep calm.”

Jorginho finished third in the Ballon d’Or rankings last month. Asked about his feelings on the past year, he responded:

“I’m very proud, but if I got there it was because I wasn’t alone,

“I got there because of the work of everyone around me. It’s nice to see a midfielder up there. It means everyone is seeing what we can do, what we can offer and add to the team.

He added: “Until now it definitely was my best year,

“Winning those trophies doesn’t happen every year! Hopefully, maybe, I can have something similar, or maybe even better, why not!”

Jorginho and co will face Brighton in their next league match on Wednesday. Following Liverpool’s defeat against Leicester City, Chelsea have the chance to leapfrog them from second place.
