The Leicester star has emerged among Chelsea’s top transfer targets this summer.

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed Chelsea’s offers for Wesley Fofana are far below the Foxes’ valuation of him.

Since joining Leicester from Saint-Etienne in 2020, Fofana has developed into one of the most promising defenders in English football.

The departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen convinced Chelsea to make a move for Fofana this summer.

However, Rodgers says his side would be happy to keep the Frenchman for another season if Chelsea don’t meet their asking price in the remaining days of the transfer window.

Speaking before his side’s upcoming clash against Arsenal, the Foxes manager confirmed offers for Fofana.

He said: “There was two, but nowhere near what the club would consider. We’re not looking to sell.

“Naturally if there’s interest from other clubs, that is looked at by the club. He’s a top young defender and there are not too many around his age.”

Asked how Fofana’s departure might affect his Leicester squad, he responded: “It can affect the whole group if you don’t manage it. You have to keep your eye on the ball. But everyone is focused on doing their best in games for Leicester City. For Wesley himself, we communicate openly with him.

“Another year for him [at Leicester] at least would be really important for his development. Wesley is quite calm on the situation. He is aware of the interest. He’s just getting on with his work.”
