Chelsea have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz after being handed a strict deadline.

Chelsea are accelerating their interest in Havertz after being informed by Bayer Leverkusen that they want negotiations concluded by August 28.

Talks between the clubs are well underway as the Blues hope to wrap up the Germany international’s signature before Frank Lampard’s squad return for pre-season training in September.

Although the Bundesliga side initially asked for £90million to green-light the transfer, they are now ready to sanction the deal for £80million.

It seems that Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia is on the verge of bridging the gap between Leverkusen’s demands and the Premier League side’s offer.

The parties are now only £9million apart in their valuations, and the deal is increasingly moving towards a successful conclusion.

According to transfer insider Kevin Palmer, ‘Die Werkself’ start their off-season campaign in seven days, and they want clarity regarding the ongoing transfer saga by then.

Lampard has already given his go-ahead to Granovskaia to go all-in for Havertz, who should become Chelsea’s third high-profile signing this summer.

After reinforcing his roster with the likes of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, the Englishman is desperate to land the sought-after 21-year-old forward.

Havertz has been in sublime form last term, bagging 18 goals and chipping in with nine assists to his teammates to earn a call from the Stamford Bridge outfit.
