The Blues will have to play without the Albanian forward for the rest of the season.

Chelsea star Armando Broja will reportedly undergo surgery after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Broja picked up the ACL injury in Chelsea’s friendly defeat against Aston Villa on Sunday. The test results have now confirmed the forward will need to undergo knee surgery.

According to 90min, Chelsea are planning to play without Broja until the end of the season.

“It was an unfortunate action. I think he got caught up with their player and the ground,” Potter said after the Villa game.

The Chelsea boss added: “It doesn’t look positive at the moment, but it is too early to say. Fingers crossed, but it is an awkward one.”

The Albanian star’s absence might convince Chelsea to look for a new forward in the January transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund youngster Youssoufa Moukoko has emerged as a potential replacement for Broja. But Chelsea are reportedly facing competition from Barcelona in their efforts to sign the German star.

At the moment, Graham Potter’s side have two options for the striker position: Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Blues will continue their Premier League campaign with a home game against Bournemouth on December 27.
