The Blues are continuing their efforts to sign a new permanent manager.
Vincent Kompany has reportedly emerged as a candidate to become the next Chelsea manager.
The Blues appointed Frank Lampard as their interim manager after sacking Graham Potter earlier this month. However, he has failed to find a decent start to his second managerial spell at the club, losing all four of his matches so far.
The situation has forced Chelsea to monitor a number of candidates for the head coach job.
Widespread reports in English media claim Mauricio Pochettino tops the club’s list ahead of the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique. However, it seems another young coach has come into the picture in recent days.
According to the Times, Chelsea’s hierarchy have “seriously” considered appointing Kompany as their next permanent manager.
The former Manchester City captain has led Burnley to Premier League promotion this season, attracting interest from a number of top-tier sides.
Most observers expect Kompany to take charge at a mid-table team before joining an elite side. However, if Chelsea fails to reach an agreement with Pochettino, Kompany might become their next choice ahead of Nagelsmann due to his experience in English football.
Under Kompany, Burnley have only lost two of their 42 Championship games this season, leading the table with a ten-point lead over Sheffield United.
