The Blues continue their search to find a replacement for Antonio Rudiger.
Chelsea are reportedly keen to sign Josko Gvardiol ahead of the next season.
The Croatian centre-back has spent an impressive debut season at RB Leipzig this season. Having made 29 Bundesliga appearances this season, the former Dinamo Zagreb star has now attracted interest from Chelsea.
According to Goal, the Blues are considering Gvardiol as an option to replace the outgoing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
The 20-year-old can play at the left-hand side of a back-three defence line, something that would benefit Thomas Tuchel’s tactics. However, the Blues are also monitoring several more players for the position.
The Premier League giants are still observing Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, whose move to Stamford Bridge fell through last summer. Other candidates are Paris Saint-Germain’s Presnel Kimpembe and Atletico Madrid’s Jose Giminez.
As for Gvardiol, Chelsea have been watching the player ever since he established himself as a starter at Dinamo Zagreb. Tuchel is reportedly looking to add two new defenders to his ranks in the upcoming transfer window. However, the Blues’ unclear ownership situation doesn’t allow their officials to enter negotiations with other clubs.
When the new owners officially take over the club, the Premier League must provide them with a new operating license. Let’s see if the club’s sale would be concluded before the opening of the transfer window on June 10.
