The Blues are monitoring another centre-back after facing fierce competition in the race to sign De Ligt.

Dayot Upamecano could reportedly become a transfer option for Chelsea if they fail to sign Matthijs de Ligt.

Bayern Munich have intensified their efforts to sign De Ligt in recent days. The Bavarians have already submitted their first offer to Juve while reaching a full personal agreement with the Dutchman.

De Ligt’s possible move to Bayern would see Chelsea fail in signing another one of their defensive targets this summer. However, the same move might open the door for a new transfer to Stamford Bridge.

According to 90min, Bayern’s Upamecano might seek a move away from the club after the arrival of the possible arrival of De Ligt.

The French defender joined Bayern from RB Leipzig but has failed to live up to expectations.

With Benjamin Pavard playing as a centre-back next season, Upamecano could struggle to get game time at Allianz Arena. That could make the 23-year-old an option for Chelsea as he wants to play regularly ahead of the Qatar World Cup.

The Blues, on the other hand, have a long list of defensive targets. They are on the verge of signing Nathan Ake while continuing their efforts to sign Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.

De Ligt remains Tuchel’s favourite choice ahead of the next season. But his possible move to Bayern could tempt Chelsea to make a bid for Upamecano.
