The Croatian star was one of the highest-rated defenders of the tournament.

RB Leipzig have reportedly increased their asking price for Josko Gvardiol to “more than €100 million” amid interest from Chelsea.

Gvardiol has remained among Chelsea’s targets for their backline since their failed bid to sign him in the summer.

Despite signing Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, and Kalidou Koulibaly earlier this year, the Blues are still monitoring the market for a new centre-back.

However, Leipzig might force the Premier League giants to look for an alternative option as they increase their asking price for Gvardiol.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Gvardiol’s possible move to Chelsea.

“Now, Leipzig want way more than €90million,” the Sky Sports journalist said. “They hope to go for more than €100million to make Gvardiol the most expensive centre-back ever.

“Chelsea are still working on it. They are still in contact with people close to the player and Leipzig.”

Chelsea might also face competition in their bid to sign Gvardiol. In recent days, reports about Manchester City’s interest in signing the Croatia international have intensified.

According to Foot Mercato, Man City are willing to submit a bid “worth over £90m” for the centre-back.

Given the fact that Gvardiol has no release clause in his contract, Chelsea will most likely avoid entering a bidding war with City for the 20-year-old.
