The Blues have seemingly stepped up the pursuit of the Belgian hitman, but an Italian football expert is skeptical about the transfer.

Romelu Lukaku is “happy to stay” at Inter Milan and isn’t “aching to get out of the club”, claims journalist Gabriele Marcotti.

Marcotti’s statement comes as a huge blow for Chelsea, who are understood to be in active pursuit of Lukaku.

Thomas Tuchel is said to be in the market for an out-and-out No. 9 in the wake of his side’s struggles in front of goal throughout the previous season, and the former Manchester United man reportedly tops his wishlist.

Despite having spent upwards of €200 million in squad recruitment just last summer, the London side are once again willing to break the bank to grant their manager’s wish as they are readying a €110 million bid for Lukaku, according to Fabrizio Romano.

“Lukaku is not aching to get out of the club,” Italian football expert Marcotti told ESPN FC.

“He’s very happy in Milan, he’s made it very clear he’s happy at Milan and he’s happy to stay in Milan.

“So without the player pushing for a move, I think at this stage it really would have to be Chelsea meeting Inter’s valuation or coming close to it, or putting some package together that works for Inter.
