Badiashile’s mistake led to Newcastle’s early goal in the EFL Cup match.
Benoit Badiashile has issued a heartfelt apology to Chelsea fans for his shocking mistake in the Carabao Cup clash against Newcastle United. The French centre-back’s poor back pass gave enough space to Callum Wilson to put the visitors ahead in the 16th minute.
Despite the blunder, Chelsea managed to force a penalty shootout with Mykhailo Mudryk’s injury-time equaliser. On Wednesday, Badiashile took to X (Twitter) to react to his early mistake against the Magpies.
“Dear Blues, I would like to apologise for my mistake yesterday which fortunately had no consequences, I will work hard to ensure that this does not happen again,” Badiashile wrote.
“See you in the next round. Come on Blues.”
Chelsea’s inconsistent form has increased the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino in recent weeks. The Blues have slipped to the tenth spot on the Premier League table, losing seven of their first 17 matches of the campaign.
However, the Argentine manager still has the backing of Chelsea’s dressing room. After the Newcastle game, Mykhailo Mudryk said: “In my humble opinion we are going in the right direction.
“We have to trust the process and trust our gaffer. We are building a really strong team. Sometimes to create something big you need time.”
