As doubts over Potter’s future grow stronger by the week, Antonio Cassano has suggested one possible replacement.

Antonio Cassano has backed Jose Mourinho to return to Chelsea for a third spell as the club’s manager.

The Blues are on a woeful run of form under current head coach Graham Potter. Since the Englishman’s appointment in September, they’ve won just nine of their 26 games (D7 L10) in all competitions.

Chelsea are down in 10th place in the Premier League, 14 points outside the top four, and on a three-match losing streak.

So while a return to Inter Milan could also be on the cards for Mourinho, Cassano reckons going back to England would prove more appealing to the current AS Roma boss.

“If [Inter manager Simeone] Inzaghi were to be fired, I would rule out the return of Jose Mourinho. If an offer from the Premier League were to arrive, the Special One would choose England,” Cassano told Bobo TV.

“The fans fell in love with his attitude [in Italy], but he intends to leave, and for me, he can only go back to Chelsea.”

Mourinho has been in charge of Roma since July 2021. He has won 47 of his 89 games (D18 L24) and led the Italian club to Europa Conference League glory last season.

The 60-year-old Portuguese previously coached Chelsea across two separate spells between 2004 and 2015.
