Chelsea have confirmed the signing of free agent Malang Sarr, who has committed to a five-year contract at the club.
Malang Sarr enjoyed a notable breakthrough with Nice last season, making 19 appearances in Ligue 1 and 1 in Coupe de la Ligue.
Sarr, who is a product of Nice’s youth academy and broke into their first-team at a raw age of 17, can operate in a number of positions across the back-line.
The left-footed defender, however, could not reach an agreement regarding terms for an extension and quit the club this summer after letting his contract run down.
He had since been a target for several high-profile sides including Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, and Schalke.
But the 21-year old recently put an end to the speculations surrounding his future as he signed for Chelsea, who have been very busy in the summer transfer market so far.
Sarr committed to Chelsea with a five-year deal and will spend the 2020/21 season out on loan.
“The opportunity to sign Malang was one we could not miss,” Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia told the club website.
“He is a tremendous prospect and we will be monitoring him closely during his loan period, hoping he will soon be back at Chelsea. We are very happy to welcome him to the club today.”
