The Blues crushed Burnley to continue their winning streak at Turf Moor.

Chelsea defeated Burnley 4-0 in their Premier League game on Saturday. The Blues closed the gap to second-placed Liverpool while Burnley slipped back into the relegation zone.

Who needs Lukaku?

Thomas Tuchel started the game with a similar formation to the one he used against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. He excluded Romelu Lukaku from his lineup while using Havertz as his main (false) striker.

Chelsea’s dominance in the first half did not result in any goals as their attempts to secure an early breakthrough failed. However, as soon as the second half started, their attacks looked increasingly dangerous.

Reece James broke the deadlock for Thomas Tuchel’s side only two minutes after the interval. Kai Havertz then converted Christian Pulisic’s precise assist to make it 2-0 for the Blues in the 52nd minute. The German star completed his brace three minutes later while Burnley looked shattered under the guests’ restless attacks.

However, Chelsea continued pushing for more goals, and they managed to score their fourth goal of the night in the 69th minute. Pulisic completed his brilliant performance by tapping the ball in from close range after a defensive mixup from the Clarets.

Chelsea had enough chances to increase their lead in the final ten minutes, but who can be unhappy with a 4-0 win in the Premier League?

What’s next for Chelsea and Burnley?

Chelsea are now seven points behind Liverpool, who sit second with 60 points. On the other hand, Burnley slipped to 18th place on the table as they stayed winless for the third consecutive game.

The Blues will continue their league campaign with a match against Norwich on Thursday while Burnley prepare to face Brentford next weekend.
