Stamford Bridge was the place where Chelsea and Leicester City met in a crucial Premier League match. We got the player ratings.
After losing the FA Cup final against Leicester City last week, Chelsea needed to make a statement in the Premier League. As things stand right now, these two squads are fighting for the third and fourth positions on the table. Today’s game was crucial for what either of them could accomplish by the end of the campaign. Unfortunately for them, any of these results would benefit Liverpool as the Reds depend on themselves to finish inside the Top Four.
During the first half, Chelsea got two goals disallowed due to Timo Werner’s bad fortune in front of the goalie. The German star simply can’t seem to catch a break. Amongst the biggest news of the year is the return of fans in the stands for the Premier League games. A day that will go down in history as a celebratory statement from everyone. The Blues wanted to respond to their supporters accordingly.
Werner finally gets lucky.
Already in the second half, Antonio Rudiger put Chelsea ahead through a header that gave the Blues a well-deserved advantage. Earlier in the first half, the Blues got an injury scare after N’Golo Kante had to leave the pitch. We still don’t know the extent of the issue but it didn’t look well. As the Blues kept on trying without one of their best players, they finally caught a breakthrough Timo Werner.
The German striker finally got some good fortune after a penalty was awarded through a four committed on him. Jorginho stood up in front of the goalie and looked cold-blooded in his effort. With some minutes still left in the second half, Iheanacho added some spice to the game with a goal for Leicester. However, this goal wasn’t enough to prevent the Blues from taking the third position. As we said before, this only benefits Liverpool.
