Stamford Bridge was the place where Atletico Madrid visited Chelsea in the Champions League. We have tonight’s player ratings.

After the surprising defeat at the Metropolitano, Atletico Madrid needed a perfect performance against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Diego Simeone hasn’t been able to get the best out of his players in 2021 as they already lost their previous La Liga advantage. In the Champions League, they started the tournament as favorites but they ended today as an utter disappointment. All those millions of euros spent in players like Lemar or Joao Felix proved to be completely useless again.

Chelsea is the comeback story of the season with the impressive work from Thomas Tuchel after taking Lampard’s place. One could easily give them the edge against any other club apart from Manchester City, Bayern Munich or PSG. Today, Tuchel proved he can do wonders with the players the Blues currently have on their roster. He even recovered Hakim Ziyech with a stellar performance from the Morocco international.

Tuchel uses the attacking trio.

The first half was a defensive masterclass from Tuchel’s boys as Atletico Madrid attempted to score with Joao Felix and Luis Suarez on the attack. With more than five years without an away goal, the Uruguay international maintained his negative streak tonight. Tuchel’s defense was able to suppress the Atletico Madrid chances despite having an injured Thiago Silva. This is yet another reason Diego Simeone should take a hard look at his outdated defensive approach in a modern world.

Every single club in Europe knows what ‘Cholo’ asks from his players and they know how to overcome his efforts. Emerson sealed the 2-0 victory with the first ball he touched during the last minute after a counter-attack assist from Pulisic. With this defeat, all the Colchoneros have is La Liga but they could very well lose that too. If this happens, we could be talking about one of the most disastrous seasons in Atletico Madrid’s recent history.
