Frank Lampard’s second spell at Chelsea is quickly turning into a nightmare.
Brighton defeated Chelsea 2-1 in their Premier League game on Saturday. The Blues stayed winless for the fifth consecutive league game, slipping to the 11th spot on the table.
Brighton back to winning ways!
The Seagulls came into the game after a 2-1 defeat against Tottenham that ended their seven-game unbeaten run last weekend.
Similar to that match, Roberto De Zerbi’s side conceded an early goal after their poor start to the game. Conor Gallagher’s shot from the edge of the box found the back of the net after a slight deflection as the Blues went 1-0 ahead.
Brighton were quick in their reaction as they took control of the game soon after conceding the opener. The Blues managed to hold on to their defensive integrity for most of the first period.
However, the visitors finally scored the equalizer in the 42nd minute. A brilliant cross from Pascal Gross found Danny Welbeck, who headed the ball home from close range to make it 1-1 before the break.
Chelsea made a few efforts to restore their lead at the beginning of the second period. However, Brighton still managed to create more serious chances through quick transitions.
De Zerbi’s men finally clinched their deserved match-winner when Julio Enciso unleashed a stunning long-range shot into the upper corner of the net in the 69th minute.
Lampard’s substitutions to bring his side back into the game didn’t work, as Chelsea settled for another disappointing home defeat.
