A second half brace from Sadio Mane secured a convincing win for Liverpool over a lacklustre Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Sadio Mane was the star of the day as Liverpool strolled to a 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Given their heavy spending in the summer, the pressure was on Chelsea and Frank Lampard to prove their mark as early title challengers. It was not to be the case as the Blues failed their test.
The game looked even in the firs half with both sides boasting chances here and there to break the deadlock. A deciding moment of the game came in the additional period of the first half when Andreas Christensen got his marching orders after a foul on Mane.
The second half saw Liverpool capitalize on that deficit as they opened the scoring via a header from Mane in the 50th minute.
Four minutes later, the Senegalese capitalized on a horror mistake from Kepa to get his second and double his side’s lead.
Chelsea got a penalty late on but Jorginho saw his effort parried by Alisson in goal. It was not the Blues’ day at all.
