Chelsea continued their poor start to the new season with a shock defeat on home soil.

Nottingham Forest defeated Chelsea 1-0 in their Premier League game on Saturday. A second-half goal from Anthony Elanga was enough for Forest to stun their opponents at Stamford Bridge.

What happened?

Chelsea started the game by quickly establishing their dominance over the possession. However, the hosts rarely created serious goalscoring chances, registering only one shot on target throughout the first period.

Forest, who had already surprised Chelsea with a few counter-attacks before the break, made it 1-0 only three minutes into the second half.

Moises Caicedo’s collision with Conor Gallagher gave enough time to Taiwo Awoniyi to snatch the ball in midfield. The Nigerian forward then sent a precise through pass to Elanga, who put the visitors ahead with a precise finish.

Chelsea immediately started their efforts to get back into the game after Elanga’s goal. But Mauricio Pochettino’s substitutions didn’t give them enough attacking edge to find the back of the net.

Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest: Man of the Match

Elanga made another brilliant display for Forest against Chelsea, but Willy Boly is our pick for Man of the Match. The Ivorian defender’s phenomenal positioning and precise tackles were key to the visitors’ successful defence of their lead.
