Chelsea’s rein as European champions ends as Karim Benzema strikes in added time to give Real Madrid a crucial win.

Chelsea have been knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid after Karim Benzema scored in extra time to send Carlo Ancelotti’s side to the semis.

The Blues looked set to advance to the next round after goals by Mason Mount, Antonio Rudiger, and Timo Werner helped them launch an incredible comeback after the first leg defeat.

But Los Blancos had plans of their own. Substitute Rodrygo levelled the scoreline on the 80th minute sending the game into added time, before Benzema scored the winner for the hosts.

Chelsea did well to overcome the deficit of the first leg but the defending champions fell short in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Madrid, on the other hand, have had a brilliant run so far in the competition, seeing off Paris Saint-Germain and now Chelsea. They will take on either Manchester City or Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals.
