Former Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has name-dropped Pedri as the club’s next superstar at Camp Nou.

Cesc Fabregas has backed Pedri to become a ‘superstar’ for Barcelona and the Spanish national team in the future.

The 18-year-old quickly established himself at Barcelona following his arrival from Spanish second division side Las Palmas last season, making 52 appearances across all competitions.

He caught the eye of many at Camp Nou with his quick and clever movements, ability to find space, work-rate, and in the way he demanded the ball.

Pedri has since continued his impressive form in Euro 2020 to help Spain reach the semi-final stage of the competition.

“He started a little bit slow [in Euro 2020], but again like the team [Spain], he’s growing into the tournament. He played a fantastic season for Barcelona,” Fabregas told talkSPORT.

“I mean, he’s only 18, we cannot forget that. He’s a special talent and I think he’ll be a superstar in the near future.

“But what I like is the confidence that he has got. He’s always asking for the ball. OK, sometimes can be better or other times he can make other decisions.

“But I believe that he is showing always for the ball, he wants the ball, in difficult moments he’s there to be available and this is what I like, his personality.”

Pedri has started in all five of Spain’s Euro 2020 matches and is expected to make the line-up in Tuesday’s semi-final against Italy.
