Balaidos was the place where Real Madrid visited Celta de Vigo in the Spanish La Liga. We have today’s player ratings for you.
Real Madrid had an important match today against Celta de Vigo at Balaidos Stadium. Winning would get keep them in the race to win the Spanish La Liga against Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona. That’s right, this tournament just got a lot more interesting compared to the start of the season. We have the holy trinity of Spanish football going at it like the old days, it feels like it’s 2014 all over again. Zinedine Zidane is finally starting to make the supporters feel like they have a balanced squad for the most important part of the season.
Today, they didn’t suffer too much against a brave Celta squad that couldn’t stop Karim Benzema. The French striker is currently at the top of his game and he keeps counting his goals in La Liga. He opened the scoreboard with a fantastic finish after an assist from Toni Kroos. Ten minutes later, both stars combined again to repeat the same formula. It was 1-2 by the break with a Karim Benzema double and two assists from Toni. Santi Mina responded to Benzema’s goals with a great header.
Celta fights back but they still lose.
After the break, Celta de Vigo was close to scoring the equalizer as they asserted their status as the locals. But Zidane could block their attempts with his well-organized defense that is starting to become pivotal for him. If Los Blancos keep playing like this on the defensive end, they just might get an important result against Liverpool. We saw no more goals until the final minutes of the match with Karim Benzema’s assist to Marco Asensio.
After the final whistle, Real Madrid moved to second place with 60 points but we still have to see Atletico Madrid and Barcelona’s respective matches play out. The Colchoneros play tomorrow against Deportivo Alaves. Whereas Barcelona have a tough away match in San Sebastian against Real Sociedad. We’ll see how the table ends after another busy weekend.
