Chelsea are linked with a handful of goalkeeping prospects after a disastrous 2019/20 campaign between the sticks for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Kepa Arrizabalaga was in goal for Chelsea for their preseason club friendly against Brighton & Hove Albion. The Spanish goalkeeper has been on the fringes of first team action with Frank Lampard preferring Willy Caballero over him.

With the Blues reinforcing their whole squad ahead of the 2020/21 season, they are linked with available custodians. This has put question marks over Kepa’s long term stay at the Stamford Bridge.

Peter Cech reflected on Kepa’s dwindling situation. He admitted that the goalkeeper had a poor season by anyone’s standards.

However, he added that he is still in Chelsea’s plans and believes their investment in him will come true.

“Kepa struggled last season, that is unquestionable,” Metro quoted Cech.

“But the club invested in him and gave him a long-term contract because they believe he has the qualities and attributes to be successful.

“Additions will be made to the squad, perhaps even in goal, and this is what is being discussed now.

“However, we all hope Kepa has a great future.”

Chelsea added Kepa to their ranks after Thibaut Courtois’ mutiny. The goalkeeper was prized away from Athletic Bilbao for €80 million, a record transfer fee for a goalkeeper.
