The veteran striker is said to be discontent with life in England and has been tipped to make a move back to South America.

Edinson Cavani says “he is proud to wear” the Manchester United shirt, a message that might be a response to the recent rumors of his exit from the club.

Reports emerged earlier this week claiming that Cavani has decided against renewing his Manchester United contract as he has his heart set on joining Argentine side Boca Juniors on a free transfer in the summer.

The transfer rumors intensified when the striker’s father insisted that his son is unhappy in England and indeed wants to return to South America so as to be “nearer his family”.

The Uruguayan signed a one-season contract with Man United upon his arrival last summer, with the option to extend by a further year.

And it seems Cavani is fully committed to the club and wants the supporters to be aware of that. He uploaded a photo of himself in the club’s colors on Instagram on Tuesday with the captain: “Proud to wear this shirt @manchesterunited.”

The Uruguayan was fined and handed a three-match ban by the FA for an ‘offensive’ social media post earlier this season, and this has been suggested as a reason for his unhappiness in England.

From a purely sporting point of view, however, his move to Old Trafford has been a success. Cavani has scored seven goals from 25 appearances so far this season.
