Almost a year after his surprise transfer to Manchester United, Casemiro has lifted the lid on his decision to quit Real Madrid.

Casemiro said that his move to Manchester United in August 2022 came at the ‘ideal moment’ in his career.

Last summer, Manchester United pulled off one of the biggest coups of the transfer window by signing Casemiro. The defensive midfielder joined from Real Madrid on a four-year contract. His arrival cost the club a reported £60 million (€70/$71m) in transfer fees.

Speaking to Brazilian outlet Placar, Casemiro revealed the transfer came at the perfect time. The 31-year-old said he still had the ‘hunger’ and ‘ambition’ to take on a new challenge. He added that he would not have left Real Madrid had he been two or three years older.

In his trophy-laden seven-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, Casemiro was vital for Real Madrid. His contributions helped the club claim five Champions Leagues and three LaLiga titles.

Casemiro later carried over his strong form in Madrid to Manchester last season. The Brazilian adapted superbly to the demands of Premier League football. His performances helped Erik ten Hag’s side clinch a third-place finish and win the Carabao Cup.

“The difference has been exactly what I thought,” Casemiro added on how the Premier League compares to LaLiga.

“The main thing is that there is no easy game here, the first one plays against the last one and is not sure of winning.”
